Winter Season
冬季单元
As remote sensing technologies extend the meaning of surface and geopolitic upwards, our perception and consciousness also shuttle between different scales -- from cells, interfaces, ecosystems to planetary scale -- and form spiritual landscapes in many artworks. Pre-modern civilization often mystifies the power of the universe: communicating the breath of heaven and earth through spiritual consciousness, while also placing the order of universe and mankind in artifacts.
Clarifying mysterious fog, modern instruments reach places where weren’t accessible to humans before. They quantify natural forces such as air, water and turn it into designable media. However, our perception of the universe still relies on our bodies, sights and breathing.
This Winter Season includes 5 online panels, 2 film screening, critical essay translation and related works archive. The thematic season is divided into 5 subtopics, “Botany and Urban Space”, “Air Politics”, “Spiritual Landscape”, “Shamanism” and “Cybernetics and Ecology”. Those topics follow biopolitics as the clue to dive into a conversation between ecology and geopolitics. Our “present” is part of the space-time trajectory of the planet. What alternative narrative could art and design create to expand human’s imagination on ecology and universe time?
